I didn't know it either until it was brought out in this thread. I guess that's why I popped off immediately. Deeje, I DO try to understand your POV, I figure it's pretty close to what my own kids are going through, so I give you LOTS of credit for speaking your mind and putting yourself out there. I really do respect you for it.
The point I was trying to make (and may have sounded too harsh for you to hear it) is that it's all about perceptions. I'm here in the South where that word is tossed out daily, even in today's "progressive" society. My concern was that you at least understand (and I now think you do) that the history behind "that word" is so strong, so powerful, that I honestly don't think it has any good purpose. I've talked to several of my black friends when I've heard them toss the "nigger" word out talking about someone else. It's ALWAYS been derogatory when they've used it and most definitely been derogatory when we crackers use it. It bothers me just as much to hear a black call another black a "nigger" as it does to hear a white.
That's all I'm trying to say here. People judge others on the image they project, not that that's right or even accurate, it just happens. I just wanted you to be aware of the image you were projecting in my personal perception. No more, no less.
I hope we can move on from here with a little more understanding of each other.

@ DeEje...You peeps on the West Coast missed out on many of the lynchings, cross burnings, and racial murders that were common place here in teh south...I remember when that movie "Rosewood" came out, they had to shut every theater in the state down, cause black folk was leavin' the joint PISSED and there were fights everywhere...
Like deepdiver said, that word gets thrown around, and I myself and very guilty of it...But it's all about image...As you can see, I'm not making the shit up, the fact that you had it in your sig made everyone have the notion that you were black...LoL...
I'll probably never stop saying the word, but I think people should be able to say what they want...But, if you are aware that saying that word can make or break you, then you should say it at your own risk...To the eyes of others, using that word in ANY instance means you either know what it means, or that you know what it means and don't care...
