At first I was against it when the league was trying to make it 20, but I think 19 is alright. When you think about it, alot of high school blue chip basketball players are already 19 when they graduate(Kobe was an exception at 17), so it shouldn't be a huge change in the number of high schoolers making the jump.

Alot of high schoolers are 18 when they graduate. This new limit means that they spend only 1 year in college. Won't that ruin the NCAA? It will just become a holding spot for the NBA. Which college is going to want to recruit and sign a player who is only going to be with them for one year? I think it's bad

That is why they go to the NBDL....which was the whole point of it all. It even says that in the article YOU posted.
This will encourage our scouts to spend time in D-league gyms rather than high school gyms
The idea isn't to get players to go to college for a short while, the idea is for the players who don't want to go to college, can't pay for it, whatever the circumstances, who still want some association with the NBA....to play in the NBDL where they will be easier to scout. Also it greatly helps the NBDL, which seemed like a terrible idea. I agree with the comment by Tim Leiger that it should have been pushed to 20 years of age. The one year off is stupid and dangerous for the athletes. They should have 2 years off, where they'd be stupid in NOT going to college or playing in the NBDL...whereas with one year off, who knows what they'd do.
I'm overall just glad that they came to a CBA and there wasnt a lockout.

The thing is....what are high schoolers gonna do. Go to the NBDL or to college to try and win an NCAA Championship.

Not all athletes want to go to school though, trash...And even if they WANT to go to school, them test scores are a bitch for most of them..
I don't know if you know it yet, but...College is another world...This is bad for the NCAA cause kids can probably go to the NBDL and not have to worry about class or shit like that...And doesn't the NBDL pay..???
Without having violations, teams can scout players, but a little summn summn in their pockets and not have to worry about NCAA infractions..? I agree, the 1 year layoff thing is dumb as fuck, if you're going to do something, I'd say do it at 20, otherwise, you can just leave it at 18...
I can't think of a case where an 18 year old came in a made an immediate inmpact, and probably could have benefited from a year or two in college or elsewhere...

When commissioner David Stern announced the NBA's minimum age had been raised from 18 to 19, he was being overly simplistic and inaccurate.
Under terms of the new six-year collective bargaining agreement, there could still be 18-year-olds playing in the NBA.
Previous eligibility rules stated that American players could not become draft-eligible until their high school class graduated - wording that allowed some players to enter the league at 17. The new rules mandate players to wait one year after their high school class graduates, meaning that players born in November or December could appear in NBA games prior to their 19th birthday - provided they graduated at 17.
Rules for international players also changed. Previously, a foreign-born player needed to turn 18 before before the draft. Under the new rules (which will not affect this year's draft), international players must turn 19 by the end of teh calendar year in which they become draft eligible - again leaving a 2-month window in which an 18-year-old might be playing in the NBA

Uh...lol I don't know wtf kinda school systems they run on because my birthday is in december, and there is no possible way I can graduate when I'm 17...even if I graduate a semester early.
