Since I got hooked up with Netflix, i've managed to get my hands on movies I missed the first (and second time) and classics worth revisiting, so, my next recommendations are both oldschool joints.

Movie Title:
Jacob's Ladder
Catch-22

Why do we have to watch it:
JL: if for nothing else...just to see what everyone has copied since. Otherwise, fantastic movie on many, many levels.
C-22: mind-exhausting critical look at the "logic" behind war. I recommend the Joseph Heller book, rather than the movie, but i'm too lazy to start that thread.

Finest moment:
JL: last 20-30 minutes
C-22: Lt. Milo's eventual rise to the top of the food chain by strangely legal means.

Xtra final review:
JL: "Louie" alone is worth listening to...good ol'Louie Morningstar.
C-22: Just read the book, dammit...you won't get the full effect with just the movie.

PS- seriously...Eternal Sunshine, etc...if you haven't seen it yet, go do so, I already recommended that one.

Movie Title:
Dark Days

Why do we have to watch it:
multi-award winning feature length documentary from Marc Singer, about a community of homeless people living in a train tunnel beneath Manhattan.
"...shatters the myths of homelessness with the strength and universality of the people the film represents."

Finest moment:
Initial voice-over, plus a soundtrack by DJ Shadow

Xtra final review:
If not for conscience, some brain-food...
if not that, at the VERY least, the aesthetic. But, do yourself a favor and watch it, though.

Movie Title:
The Brothers Quay Collection

Why do we have to watch it:
Actually, you don't really have to...but if you're one of those kids that thought those TOOL videos were the baddest shit on the planet, well...this is where they came from. It's up to you to decide whether the Quay twins were ripped off, or influenced the TOOL visuals, either way, this is the original source of those haunting images.

Finest moment:
two videos by His Name Is Alive and yes...the other eight shorts...sorry.

Xtra final review:
Again, not for everyone, but if you're into visuals, stop-motion animation, WTF kind of non-linear..."plot", enjoy. If you only like Bad Boys and 2 Fast 2 Furious, skip it.
