I've been thinking about this lately. Does racism still exist today? I know to some extent it does, but has it really gotten any better from the 60s? I'm white so I really don't notice that much but if some others wanna give some insight on this I would appreciate it

You know trash, you almost certainly want to say yes, it exists...I mean, it has to right..? But, I am in the south, the damn heart of the racists in Mississippi...But I can't honestly say that I have experienced it DIRECTLY...No white man has ever called me a nigger to my face, shot me a nasty look, etc...

Mosts racists are quiet, stay the fuck outta the way where they can be noticed, and then go home at night and polish of their old kkk hats...People are too reckless, they know that those days of water hoses are long gone...

The only racism I can think of is economic racism maybe, the good ole boy system...I am sure that exists, but as I said, I cannot vouch in that area either...It seems generally, people are trying to get along, especially consider that stuff didn't happen THAT long ago...

Yeah, it's still alive and kickin'. I'm an old white guy here in the South and I hear the whisperings at least once a week from idiots who think they need to "educate" me on the way things "really are". Shit... I'd really like to educate THEM on what I've seen with my own two eyes and experienced through the lives of my friends.

My wife had "tendencies" toward being racist. I mean, that's the way she was raised and never really questioned it. Until I came along anyway. We watched a documentary on the civil rights movement in the 60s where the fire hoses were brought out and the German Shepherds were set loose. She asked me, "Is this just a movie or did that really happen?" She honestly didn't know! I told her, "Hun, that is actual TV footage of the marches." It shocked the shit out of her.

It's kind of funny now, because some of her closest friends who've been with her through the worst of her addiction problem are black. We've had a couple of them over for dinner which is something she NEVER would have done before.

So yeah... it's still around, but we CAN make a difference even if it's just one person at a time.

Racism is not alive but it does have a presence though it hass dwindled. Shit, even Mississippi is FINALLY prosecuting men for racially motivated murder.

I understand the joking around with friends and stuff. But I think that A said it best that most people keep it quiet.

For all you whites in here (lol...sorry A. If that isn't racist....) do you look at black differently when you just seem them in the streets? WHen you see the news and a black man shot someone, do you think that's typical?
Sometimes I have these thoughts but is that racism or just being prejudice?

Racism is a prejudice. deal with it, or it will hold you back.

and I lived in Oaktown... 15 minute walk from the county hospital.

No...I'm not saying that shooting someone is typical. But when a white guy goes on a shooting rampage and a black guy goes on a shooting rampage do you look at it differently?

Is there a reason why most jails are filled with blacks?

Trash, that is a MILLION dollar question...

We were kinda touching on that in a topic on the last forum...The ratio of blacks in jail is OVERWHELMING...

Still, it's hard for me to see the injustice in that...If you don't committ a crime, you generally don't go to jail...All these laws that they say are designed to keep more black people in jail (the difference between crack and cocaine possession for example) are mute, cause fucking selling drugs is illegal...

I do think that blacks are targeted unfairly in some instances, but like I said, I like relative experience, and I don't have any...

I just keep bringing up more things...lol....but....

what about like the Young Negro College Fund (or something like that)? Or the NAACP? Are those still needed? Doesn't those just show racism? There's not a Young White College Fund.
