I'll jump right in and mess things up by saying it's a combination of the two. Heredity certainly gives us the building blocks with which to work, it's the basis of our basic body form and shape, hair and eye color, and even to some degree our core personality type.
The nurture part comes into play as to how that all pans out, how the final product is shaped and molded. You can have a body like a Greek god (or goddess) but if you've been told all your life that you're an ugly worthless piece of shit, you're going to believe it. Internal scars are just as debilitating as physical ones. On the other hand if your just an average person, but have been raised all your life being told that there's nothing in your way, that you can achieve anything, to a degree, you are able to do just that.

How can you debate a smart old timer with a psych degree..?!?!? Topic is nullified instantly, CDR...
But we can further enhance it with a scenario perhaps..? Always helps put things into perspective...I wanted to get threads like these going on the old board, but they must have been murky waters...Always have been fascinated by the dynamics of behavior...
So, go ahead CY, drop us a model to analyze, poke, and prod...Should be interesting, and educational to say the least...

instead of a debate, I will just tell CY to look up existentialism, and Emmanuel Kant.
Remember, there is no such thing as "I, Kant."
and LG thought I was corny before...

both heredity and environment affect us but on humans the highly percentage is environment, because since our intellectual skills the adaptation to changes is a way better than the instinct based of other animals.

No such thing as "I, Kant"....lmao....
I agree with what DD said. It's a combo of the 2

"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"
Soren Kierkegaard

Nah...i think its hereditary...
because how you naturally think, act, etc determines how you respond to your environment...I agree we all change based on our surroundings, but our genetics determine how we view/operate in those scenarios..

lmao they do huh?
Two brothers are born....
One gets beat by their parents every night..
the other doesnt..
That won't affect how both of them react to situations from here on out?
How about one gets raped (changing it to sisters)
one is definitely going to have different views and ways of operating in their daily life. Less trusting..probably on edge around guys.
Heridity sets the blocks down...gives you hair and eye color....gives you a personality. Gives a person...5-10% of their being.
How many babies are similiar? Except for a few exceptions...they're all pretty much the same...
How many adults are simliar?
Experience changes everything.
I look around my school and see these gothic kids wearing black lipstick and black fingernail polish.....then think they were the same as me 16 years ago....being brought into the world...held by their parents...breast fed.....we weren't much different.
Now look at us......complete oppisite.
What makes some kids outgoing and others shy into corners......what they've experienced.
People start to change and come into their own as they grow up....why do you think that is? They've gathered their views and opinions based on experiences and things they've been taught.
Heridity is your appearance...the parts you can't change.
Enviroment is the cause of everything else. Behavior, opinions, what kind of music you listen to, how you form views.
Let's take a look at something often confused...personality.
My dad was very popular in highschool...as am I. the class clown so to speak..always making folks laugh.
I don't make people laugh and joke around all the time because I inheirted it from him.....Think for a second if he beat me and yelled at me all the time. Would I tell jokes like he did? No.
But because I grew up with him joking with me a lot...I picked up on it...and now in turn do the same to everyone else. The open, outgoing nature of my father...that he has shown to me....has made me outgoing. Not the fact that he also is outgoing, but because he's shown me that its fun and the way to be.
If any of that isn't clear...ask questions...and I'll answer.

I would say it is intially internal,.. and until the point of definition of the ego (which differs), we (on varying levels of consciousness) create a complex synthesis of internal nature with outside factors from then on.
