What's interesting is that you can probably find a current version of most of those "thoughts" written on the wall of most every rest stop in the country.

Some more wisdom: Run away from erupting Volcanoes, ya dumbasses.

Point is... they had nowhere to run to, and they couldn't outrun the pyroclastic blast coming down from the volcano at close to 400 mph. Hell, they didn't even have time to bend over and kiss their asses goodbye.
