But wouldn't it be simply a matter of communicating with the device via the drivers already installed on the computer to obtain a video image that is in a format that the software can read?
Also, I can do this, but I'm not sure if you can.. Find the Video-Out or equivelent on your camera, plug that in to either your graphics card, or TV Tuner card (if analogue/digital inputs are there..), or even a Video to Computer USB device (got the first two, not the Vid->Comp device) and use Netmeeting or Messenger to access the feed directly, since those video feeds are designed to be accessed the way MSN does it..
Finally, you could always fork out $50 for a Logitech webcam 8)
Sorry if my reply is hard to understand.. I love being disorganised

I'm with who on this one, unless the camera comes w/some sort of software, getting it to work as a webcam may be extremely frustrating...My advice is to ebay it, you can usually get a cheap, cheap cam man that will do the web cam stuff...But if that's not an option, email the maker of the camera, and see if it is even capable...And I trust that you have highspeed internet, right..?

Dude, if you've got dial up, a webcam ain't gonna do shit for you. The refresh on it will be so slow you might as well just take pics of yourself with the camera, upload them to your computer, then post them on the Net. It'll take about the same amount of time, and will keep you busy doing something other than waiting for the webcam to send the image. Trust me... I've been there, tried it, and about killed myself over the frustration. Set your priorities of what you want/need to do. If the car is the prime focus right now, concentrate on getting that. Then, before you start thinking about a webcam, look into what's available in your area for high-speed internet (Cable or DSL are the only two I'd consider if you're thinking of web-cams).

No shit Dee...You know we wouldn't lie to you..! If you got the dial up, you could have the best webcam in the world and still want to amputate your sausage in the meantime...

I got my priorities right man.... its the car all the way and if I could get the digicam to work as a webcam it would be great if not nothing is really lost. I dont really need to use the cam always but knowing that if need be i could use it would be an added advantage you know. I know it would be hard to use a cam with dial up but usually when im online i have atleast an hour so I dont really mind. So yeah if you all can find me something that would allow me to use that digi cam as a webcam it would be great if not nothing is lost...

http://www.marssystems.com/inphoto/
check out the above three links. They all offer software that allow you to control your camera from your computer, including zoom and taking pictures which get stored right on the hard drive. I am sure one of these could easily be adapted to automatically capture a frame and then your could publish to internet with your webpage software of choice.
