Marines improvise, adapt and overcome. Or is that just what Dirty Harry says?

One of my hubby's friends lost his leg in Iraq. It was devastating. When I finally met him (Sal) is was a real awakening. We have all seen the old homeless and legless men, but when we see one of our own generation it's scary.

Sal and the guys have been apart since they returned in March. finally got to see him this weekend and just happened to be having quite the party. Here's a picture that might lift your spirits. Sal takes it quite well that he has lost his leg, well, most of it, and he has come to be grateful for his new prosthetic leg. I guess you could say he has found more than one use for it. We all celebrated this weekend and hopefully you can drink to the Marines too.

You are as close as it gets to relaying this kind of information to us...He probably realized that loosing a leg is a small price compared to what others lost...He could probably get a kick out of the "The Best Of" thread...

Tell him we got crazy love for him here, as well as a straw that is long enough to put in that prosthesis... :tur:

Kudos to your boy from a dried out squid.

I have lost most of my REAL high school friends in wars, and got a few friends vets from the corp or special forces who wake up screaming.

Thats a great post. At times many of dont realise that there is always someone worse off then us somewhere in the world. And I guess only people who are really willing to do with their problems and situations can come to that conclusion and actually get to live their lives properly despite the parasitizes. I would be proud if I could have half the confidence this guy has. People like Sal are the real heros to me.

I hope Sal gets looks after by the Authorities now he is back on Civvy Street. There have been a lot of instances in the UK where veterans from the Falklands and the first Gulf War have ended up sleeping on the streets because the Army doesn't give a toss about them when they have left the service.
