Anyway....sure, they have a choice whether to take their life or not but what I'm against is the getting the doctors involved. You're telling doctors to pretty much murder someone and that's against the law and just plain wrong. If they are in too much pain take your life. But don't make a doctor murder you

OK, I must have missed it that first time, but I see your point this go round...I was understanding that we were talking about a Dr. Kevorkian(sp) kind of thing, and not doctors being forced to be the executioner...I am thinking man with terminal illness asks doctor to take him off artificial support, and doctor complies without any reprocussions to him for having done that, rather than be sued by some family member that doesn't want to let go...

Which doctor slips the pill is, in my opinion irrelevant. This doctor feels like he's a murderer? Then have him go find another doctor in the hospitial who doesn't mind. I see what you're saying, but its a very small issue. I don't think the patient cares who he gets it from...as long as he gets it.

I was too young to actually be around the hospitial, but when my grandfather was dying...my mom said it was painful to watch, because everytime he opened his eyes again after sleeping or being sedated....he looked dissapointed and just tired of fighting.

It's cases like these that make the issue seem like common sense, but I can see where the conflict arrises, but my personal opinion isn't going to change.

And just to throw in a little something, I think the Doctor should remain anonymous... so that people, even if he don't think s/he is, don't call him a murderer and shit..

Logic has a good point there too. In an era where doctors who perform perfectly legal and safe abortions are being stalked and murdered, anonymity would be very beneficial to a doctor who chooses to help out a suffering patient. I've worked in hospitals where doctors have bemoaned the fact that they cannot do anything further to ease the pain of patients who are in the end stages of cancer or other debilitating disease.

I have a Living Will that specifies what I don't want done to me in the event of a terminal illness or accident. I strongly suggest that everyone take the time to do one for themselves, because if the unthinkable happens, and you're not able to make the decision at the time, someone else will!

Personally, I think three doctors who all give their opinion that the person has the medical right to die is the best way to do it.., just like the firing squad, where only one person has a live round, so no one is labeled with the execution...
