hold up on psu purchases!!

I just got (arrived yesterday) a pretty nice psu from XG. here is a link to some reviews:
http://www.mgecompany.com/xg/products_p ... eviews.php

all i have to say is this osu is solid! full aluminum shell, 600W, lcd readout on back with voltages, modular cabling, very very very quiet. i picked up the 500w from ewiz.com for $99 plus shipping.

for mobo i would highly recommend dfi. i am currently running the lanparty nf4 ultra d. it is rock solid, has some nice features like horizontal ram slots 2 pci xpress 16x slots. if you like to overclock or fine tune your pc at all, dfi boards are well known for their "overclockability". here is a link to their main products page
http://us.dfi.com.tw/index_us_noflash.jsp?SITE=NA
and a link to forums that are pretty active and have dfi staff monitoring
http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/index.php

*edit*
what is your budget btw?

If you must go with an egyptian name, Amun Ra is not quite what you want. The hidden Ra. not quite. You want "De-Juti", the mouth of ra,.. for it is on your computer, you have your voice to us, yah?

@ emanon, thanks for the tips, the mobo is where I will spend most of my time, as I need something I can swear by...The Gigabyte board I have in my machine is so good, man I love it...I'm probably going to get into some reviews tomorrow, thank you for the tips...

And all things considered, I'm going for that see all, be all effect, so price really isn't a concern..I just want something that will last a couple of years on my pirated 64 Bit Version of XP Professional, LoL...

@ raum

Well, as my current PC's name is Ra, I'm going away from Egypt this time...Achilles beat out my other name, Mjolnir, based on a dream I had... /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />

The NVIDIA 7800GTX 512MB is probably one of your final options.. if I were you, get it..!

And, I'd also try to get a mobo with Dual x16 PCI-express, rather than ones with two x16 slots, but when used together only output x8..

Note that all of the above information is based upon the fact that you're willing to go with NVIDIA, rather than ATi..

Well, 2 things..

a) Yes, I was also thinking SLI, otherwise there would be no point to have two x16 slots
/cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> I was JUST looking at that mobo a few minutes ago before YOU posted it.....! WTF?!

LOL...Great minds think alike..?

Also, I would like to mention, that while I'm not going to limit myself by price, I am sort of bargain shopping, as in, the most bang for the buck...I don't want to pay $100 stacks more for a part because it is the "fastest" ATM, when the card beneath it is a shade slower and cheaper...

that frickin PSU is tough as shit man....600W, 2mm thick anodized aluminum chassis, lcd readout of the volts and internal temp, modular UV reactive power cables that are pre-sleeved, heat-pipes and an external radiator to dissipate heat quietly.....I would keep going but you all might think I am working on a commission for them.... Link to pdf of spec sheet and manual for more details

What is the target 1st boot date? better set that now so you dont squander away another 9 months waiting for X, Y or Z to be released.

how are you planning on doin the home server thing? I am doing that with some old parts too...I would be intersted in what you will set it up with/for.

I'm gonna say that I hope to have everything mapped out, charted, and set to order by mid December, and then of course, put it together on Christmas, give or take a few days, and depending on how much shit gets dumped on me between now and then...

As for my home server deal, I'm going to neatly tuck RA into a corner, solidify my current home networking setup, and just put as much shit on it as I can...DVD's, music, all those types things will go there...Since my son likes to scratch up my DVD's and shit, I'm going to use the home server to play movies on his TV, and stuff like that...The idea, i reckon, is to use it until it quits, and kinda just use my PC for current work...

Whatever it is, its going ot be fun...!

And I'm loving that PSU E...
