49ers showing some fight

#1

Post by khan402001 »

I could hardly believe it. Fourth quarter, and the 49ers were still in a game - was I seeing things? Another circus catch by Brandon Lloyd - this one didn't get wiped out by a penalty. And someone other than FG kicker Joe Nedney stepping up with some points.

Pity about that two point conversion at the death though - sure looked like Dorsey had at least one other receiver open. Still, this keeps the Niners in striking distance for the Reggie Bush bowl.

So, is Dorsey just playing horrible or what's the deal..? Is the rookie hurt..? I didn't think much of him in college, and obviously that has not changed now...But when you're a bad team, its hard to really find error in anyone...I need to stop getting so drunk on Saturdays watching college football, and then I may be able to watch a few pro games... /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Actually, I think Dorsey and the offence played reasonably well today - they scored TDs which was something new. But of course when your QB completes one pass to your team and the opposition the week before, the only way is up.

As for the 49ers' problems... let's see, where to begin.
1. shit front office: pre-dates Mike Nolan, so not really his fault. Made some suspect moves like signing Kevan "no danger of passing 4 ypc" Barlow to a big contract, as well as CB Ahmed Plummer - for that sort of money you should be getting a shutdown corner who's on the field. Also some rather suspect draft picks - anyone seen former first round WR Rashaun Woods? First round tackle Kwame Harris? Yikes

Unfortunately, 1 translates into 2.
2. team full of holes - here are a few lo-lights: suspect OL (big free agent acquisition Jennings on IR - Bills insiders apparently knew this was the likely outcome from the get go), a secondary that inflates the stats of fantasy football QBs, a general lack of talent at the skill positions (it's a badly kept secret that the Niners wanted to trade out of the no1 spot - it's just their bad luck that there wasn't a consensus no 1 pick last year).

This is not to say there are not positives:
1. Bryant Young, now playing DE in a 3-4, the last link to the glory 1994 team (I think), is having a great season. Unfortunately, I think he's picked up an injury.
2. Brandon Lloyd - a no 2 receiver masquerading as a number 1 - makes spectacular one handed grabs that indicate he probably can't get consistent separation from defenders but has good hands. At least he gets on Sportscenter.
3. Apparently, both the Niners' FG kicker and punter have been having career years.

I'd be a lot happier with Lloyd as my no 2 receiver, but he's the best the Niners have for now and the foreseeable future. Certainly has an eye for the spectacular. As good as the one last week was, there was one from last season when he was off balance and falling out of bounds but manages to snag the ball on his fingertips - amazing, that one was even better.

They need to fight for that draft pick if you ask me. Reggie Bush is a can't miss #1 if he opts to be eligible this year.

Well you gotta think that the Texans are going to battling the Niners down the stretch for the Reggie bowl. I think I am going to start rooting for the Texans.

Bush should definitely turn pro. He has nothing left to prove at college level - he is hands down the no 1 best player in my book. Preferably he should join (Frank) Gore in the Niners backfield. Then we can play Alex Smith 49 million big ones to hand the ball off to Bush, or throw to Bush in the flat... on a screen...
