Macs

#1

Post by Convince Yourself »

Okay, so I used to have an IBM and everything was just fine and dandy. Now I have a Mac and have NO effing clue what I'm doing. Especially with videos and pictures. Like I can't find any programs on the damn machine to rotate the pictures off of my digital camera and NO movies EVER play. It was bearable for awhile while I was amply fascinated with iTunes and such, but now it's just getting ridiculous. So if anybody knows anything (and I know that you all do) about Macs and working them in general, it'd be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

That's because most graphics artists do..

CY, if you would be a tad more specific, I'm sure I could give you a hand, but telling you everything about Macs is sorta gonna take a while

I have to work on both platforms, since my "real" job demands I use PC, "so as not to complicate things". If playing cross-platform video is all you need...look up VLC, or Windows Media Player, for MAC obviously. As far as rotating pictures go...MAC's Preview can rotate, resize and save to whatever simple graphic format you need. Let me know what you are looking to get done specifically and I might be able to help you.

I didn't know they made a Windows Media Player for Macs.. lol

And Preview SUCKS. Is there any other free program that I can download for picture editing? I'm layout editor for our school's newspaper, and am great at Photoshop- but the copy I downloaded off of LimeWire won't open. :x

Thanks for your help!

yup, WMP is indeed available for MAC, don't hate on VLC tho...the Apple VLC works, IMO WAY better for apple than it does for PC.
if layout is your problem...
Adobe InDesign is THAT shit! (skip Quark at all costs, might as well use Word).
as far as free software well..."free" is...well, you know...you KNOW!.
Try this crap:
http://www.ragtime-online.com/
Or, if you have iWork, use Apple Pages, otherwise you could simply use any shareware app which gives you a 30 day licence.
Try something like:
http://www.stone.com/Create/Create.html
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/DTP-Prepre ... yout.shtml

...did I mention InDesign?
