I must say I didn't really look into the DS. I have a decent PS1 collection and I was having a waah to a friend about current PC gaming sucking compared to my PS1 games. Anyway we got talking and someone else mentioned you can play the PS1 games on a hacked PSP with the latest hacked firmware.
Soooo, I lashed out on a PSP - got the white one. Nervously I followed some pretty clear guides on the interwebs to downgrade it then upgrade to the latest hacked firmware. Haven't got round to converting my PS1 games to it yet as I've been sucked into Lego Star Wars. But the time will come when I convert some of my much loved PS1 games to this ripper system.
I've played the DS and it is cool too, no question. Just wasn't what I wanted at the time.

don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to say don't get a PSP, I'm just saying the DS certainly has better games, and a far more solid homebrew crew. I'm also saying, Ty aside, the PSP doesn't really have a impressive game library.
Actually, the PSP is far more preferable to the ipod for me. great screen, a decent fm adapter, and expandable memory.
But I will say, when i found the m3 DS Simply, and saw that I could use micro sd cards, and it has a media player ans an organizer and I have a site of 1000+ nds roms for nds games and it can play nes and snes and gba, I was far more impressed that with it just for games. But make no mistake, sony just had a revised strategy revealed that included the PSP as incremental to their strategy. They even secured some exclusive titles. For a while, it seemed like games were an afterthought on that machine, and I know alot of people wouldn't even think of putting a game in it.
I still hate umd disks, and the load times make me want to scream... but it does fit its pricepoint, has better sound and screen than the DS, and if it had a keyboard or touchscreen I would certainly use it more.
As far as playing all my old games, or roms, I got far more memories with my nintendo of my youth, than with a ps one. besides all the new psp games feel alot like ps1-2 games anyways. and a LOT of lackluster titles that might look good quickly fade. With the DS, you can look at a game and be 80% sure it is good or not. I think that sincerity in advertising is why people like the DS. You get the game you want, most of the time.
Here's the best place to look for games, cause they consolidate the ratings from several places.

Thanks I'll check it out. Yeah the UMD's are a bit futzy but I rip em to the mem stick.

The UMD's around here are dropping to $10 a piece, and between those and cheap games, I'm loving my PSP...Add to the fact that it has wireless internet and browsing capabilities, and can handle pictures, I think its a great device...But I don't game enough to know about the library as a whole, as I will only play certain games anyway...But the ones I do play, I have enjoyed...I also have an FM modulator for my PSP, and can bump MP3's in my car...
Let us know how that emulation goes, I think I am too far gone to run any of the homebrews...But, not so eager to do that anyway after I bricked my first PSP...

I just came up on a PSP Slim for the lo/lo...And even though I already have a PSP, I'm loving this one...It has a few new features, the best of which is the ability to use HD Component cables to hook to my HDTV...If I catch any UMD's for cheap (I got Superbad for $12) it is more than worth it...I'm also thinking of experimenting with Skype, seeing what's up with that...The internet radio rocks out hard as well...
I'm also told they are releasing GPS software soon, which will add yet another use to this great device...I'm planning on ordering an additional 8 GB card soon and probably experiment w/ripping movies straight from DVD to PSP format...Maybe that Media Manager Pro software can do that, I'll have to do a bit of research though...
