the best way to approach word puzzles like this is to not process the words by scanning the text backwards. If you are not processing the words and interpreting the meaning your mind can stay focused on the lower level task of tallying letters instead of interpreting words and sentances.
this kind of strategy usually works very well on standardized tests. Speaking of which, when taking multiple choice tests, you should always read the possible selections in reverse order...many times, in a well written test, the answers are presented in an order that is meant to trick and mislead you.
