Documents reveal Plame's CIA role was not "undercover&q

After the reports of CIA in Niger were approved and passed through to the President, they were not identified as classified.

The U.S. President and Rove LITERALLY never got the memo that Plame's role was undercover. funny that.

Not as funny as this, though:
http://truthout.org/imgs.art_01/fordmemo.pdf

Sixteen days before President Bush's January 28, 2003, State of the Union address in which he said that the US learned from British intelligence that Iraq had attempted to acquire uranium from Africa - an explosive claim that helped pave the way to war - the State Department told the CIA that the intelligence the uranium claims were based upon were forgeries, according to a newly declassified State Department memo.

The revelation of the warning from the closely guarded State Department memo is the first piece of hard evidence and the strongest to date that the Bush administration manipulated and ignored intelligence information in their zeal to win public support for invading Iraq.

The memo says: "On January 12, 2003," the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research (INR) "expressed concerns to the CIA that the documents pertaining to the Iraq-Niger deal were forgeries."

QUOTESixteen days before President Bush's January 28, 2003, State of the Union address in which he said that the US learned from British intelligence that Iraq had attempted to acquire uranium from Africa - an explosive claim that helped pave the way to war - the State Department told the CIA that the intelligence the uranium claims were based upon were forgeries, according to a newly declassified State Department memo.

and if you further read that paragraph, you will see that becase it was still in dispute, it was not included in the address to the UN given by former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and never entered into our claims about Iraq, but was kept on a burner due to the sheer amount of conflicting evidence. and this report ITSELF is dated June 10, 2003.

ALSO, his exact words from the State of the Union 2003 are thus:

QUOTEThe British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.

Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production.

much different than what the claims appended to this memo say, no?

See, the weird thing is the only thing the US ever TOTALLY asserted is that irawq was purchasing "dual-use" items, useful in producing WMD, which the UN has specifically forbidden it to do, without full review. It is WELL proven that was the case, and even the iraqi Interior ministry admits it, because some of it is missing.

Fact of the matter is they were caught buying stuff they couldn't buy with UN approval, because it could be used for three purposes:

1. Nuclear centrifuge (rotor and zippe style)
2. Tactical rockets (unlikely anyone would use such a expensibve material for a tactical casing, when you can use something MUCH less expensive, and legal through the UN sanctions on Iraq)
3. Industrial uses for nuclear energy and other things Irawq can't afford.

That is ALL we asserted WE KNEW, and we intercepted TWO shipments.

all other speculation was certainly hyped, but under the circumstances ON THE UN TABLE at the time, they were more than legitimate.
