Man, I think the PS3 is going to be full of issues man...I'm not banking on it, or wishing it, but I just don't think they're gonna win this round...

well, I wasn't going to make it a anti-sony issue, but that's what people popped in with.
I suspect the PS2 will carry Sony in the games market, and they know it. They are still losing >94% of their profit from this delay, and they have already scaled back Japan's units from 100,000 to 80,000 for this year. So, they are clearly having issues with quality control and production. But for the PS2, they still have some great games coming out.
But Microsoft said their numbers will hold firm 6+ million already sold, and they can support another 4 MILLION consoles on the market pre-holiday, and their backward compatibility list is going to grow exponentially. Most of the PS2 games still see an XBox version, but it is still the original xBox that is the console most (including me) are getting rid of.
Also, another new unanticipated cost with the PS3 has arisen, the power issue. The 380 watts the PS3 demands means for about 3.5 hours of "REAL LIVE MULTI-GAMEPLAY" a day, you will see about an extra $60-$80 on your power bill each month; compared to the $15 from the PS2 (with 45 watts of power) or the $25 from the xBox360 (with a 160 watt brick). for the record, my power bill has had no discernible increase, as I have the 360 on instead of other things...
(obviously, peak hours will be even more, for all systems across the board, because power is more expensive when the grid demand is VERY high, like when everyone turns on the lights/radio/razor/etc. in the morning.)
There is also the issue that the xBox live dashboard uses about 4% (2% CPU, 6.25% RAM) of the system resources, while the PS3 knock-off of XBox Live is sucking power, just running in the background! It is estimated, that at any given time 12.5% of the Cores in a PS3 are busy running the background OS. There is question how this will affect gameplay. Plain and simple, Sony is not talking about this, and get red in the face when it is mentioned, and say "It's a computer."
but still, there are gamers who have only ever owned a Ps-1 and then a PS-2, and they will express that undeniable brand loyalty. Aside from that, the XBox crowd I talk to are not brand facists, and at least 20% are really looking forward to the PS3. Similarly, more than 60% anticipate getting the Nintendo Wii before the New Year.
but with Final Fantasy XII debuting today on the PS2, it is no question Hallowe'en is a Sony holiday.
meanwhile, I am just chilling playing Dr. Strange on my 360 /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
FINALLY. Seriously, when i was a toddler, and got my intellevision, i was looking for a Dr. strange game. and NOW...
hmph, I have to work. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

waw! wai!
seems like a really smooth run through the update.
i especially am amazed by the very first screen.
"an update is available for your console from xbox live. If you decline this update you will be signed out of xbox live."
... and Sony is pushing technology on peeps?! with sony you at least get what you want (and know you pay for): cell, rsx, wifi, hdmi 1.3, memory cards aplenty, bluethooth, 60gb of hdd, a dead-silent console AND a free blu-ray player which is good for games as well.
talk about value for money! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Brains,
if you know about xBox, that means he is set to autosign in, and had just turned the system on.
The 1080p is beautiful, btw, but i prefer the extra mobility in xBox live this offers, as well as the auto-download of demos. that way i can turn the system on while my girl is watching TV, and the demos don't cut into MY time with the *good* TV.
but that is only really an advantage when you limit the amount of time on a console, like i do five days out of my seven day week.
