I have an old 3g original ipod that has a 15 gig capacity. I know it aint much really but the battery is really screwed up. Its on full charge and as soon as i plug it into the computer the battery dies in two minutes.
I have some stuff on it but Im not really into recovering that as a major priority. However I do want to just turn it into an external hard drive ... any tips?
Can You Use An Ipods Hd For An External Hd?

To tell you the truth, it's probably far easier to replace the battery, then rip its guts out and use the (probably PCB-mounted) HDD as an external storage device.
Replacement lithium batteries should be available at most good electronic hobby stores, just make sure you note down the voltage and current (should be printed on the back of the battery when you open it up), and the approximate dimensions (so that it fits in the damn case when you close it).
If you can't find an exact match, post the specifications of the original battery and the one you found in-store, and I'll see if it's close enough to work without causing significant damage to the electronic components (though, it's still much, much better if you try hard to find an exact match).
