I am soon to be in the market for an HDTV....I have HD DVD, and the quality is amazing and promising...
I love fully featured things...Hooking to this, hooking to that, doing everything is my style...At the same time, the top tier of what money can buy...
With that in mind, what brands of HDTV could I be looking for..? Something bigger is preferable, 40-50+ inch range...I have heard that HDTV w/DLP is flat foot amazing, and I bet that's true...Whatever I get will be accompanied by BOSE brand home theater, cause I'm equally as serious about my sound as I am my gadgets....
Any suggestions..?

My personal opinion:
Westinghouse made the first color television.
Westinghouse made the first LCD screen.
And still, Westinghouse make the best overall value/quality choice. MANY places adjust the contrast and depth settings to make these look subpar on the sales floor because they have a lower pricepoint. Really, your HD picture is only as good as your ability to balance the settings in the menu. I had my girl's dad look at my TV (he has a Samsung 50" Plasma, and a Samsung 26" LCD), and he was suprised my TV was cheaper than his. He went to buy one in the best buy down the street, and refused to believe it was the same model.
I got a 14" HD screen on my laptop, and a 40" (combo DVD) and 27" Westinghouse duo, I play games in 27" and watch TV 40", both generally in 1080i, or progressive resolutions conducive to the settings on the console of appliance. My two HD TV cost less than 2000 dollars fully stocked and dropped off at the house. I arranged a deal for them, and was going to sell the little one on ebay and recoup the losses, but I live with my girl, and will use one to play games while she is watching TV. The HD movies and trailers I download through XBox Live look better than anything I have seen on a HD-DVD player or the three blu-ray players I have witnessed.

If you can wait for the 52" inch model:

Otherwise, there's the 42" version:

Just thought I'd point out I've had no problems whatsoever with any Philips products I've ever purchased, and their monitors are always supreme..
That model has no motion lag (managed to rate a 4ms refresh rate for an LCD HDTV), and yes, the backpanel does glow like that.. lol
Only issue I've heard with the 42" is that the remote is hard to see in the dark (shouldn't by a problem once you memorize where the keys are), and that sometimes it has issues downscaling 1080p..

I just bought a Hitachi 51" HDTV. Got it on Black Friday for $700 at Best Buy. It may not be Plasma or LCD, but the pic is great and a HUGE step up from what we had. I've got it hooked up to my HD Cable box from Comcast and the HDTV channels are incredible.

So, it'd be rear-projection, yes? I mean, if it's not Plasma or LCD, and I doubt you'd go and get a CRT HDTV..

Well, if things stay true to form, I'll get a sweet ass hookup no matter the TV I buy...
I may have to get two though, cause I'm not letting wifey anywhere near mine, lol...
