I guessed someone would have already started this thread today.
OK, I wanna hear what some people say about this before I come in and crush the thread...
So, let's hear it.

So I watched the documentary and wasn't impressed with it at all. All they pretty much did was prove that families were buried together which is already a known point. In no way did they prove that that was Jesus of Nazareth. There were way too many unanswered questions
What did you think of it Raum?

It's a bunch of hooie to use a theological term.
First of all, the name we translate Jesus was actually Yeshua AKA Joshua, a very widely used name in that particular time (as well as now). Just because they found an ossuary (bone box) with the name Yeshua on it means nothing.
I can imagine this conversation going on: "Hey, y'all!!! I found an ossuary over here with the name Yeshua on it! It MUST be Jesus'!!! Woo hoo, we're famous!"
IMO a feeble attempt to gain fame and fortune.

I totally agree. The name is Yeshua which could be Jesus or Joshua like you said. Also, 25% of Jewish women had the name Mary or a variation of that. Joseph was a very common name as was Judah, James, Simon, Peter, etc. This really didn't prove anything

I have not seen it yet, just knew it was about. I thought it was just a repeat of old news, I thought they'd already found it before and were just hoo-hahing about it to get more attention.

It was first discovered in 1980 but they just started actually researching it

Hey, I found a letter that is signed Mohammed. Musta been written by the Prophet of Islam!!!
I found a tomb with the name David on it. Anyone want to dig up a King?
My dog's name is lassie. She was on TV!!!
Seriously, names are not a means to establish any historical attachment, especially in the Middle East where Divine Namesake has been practiced by Christian, Jew and Muslim for more than 1000 years.
An Ebionite (The original Jews who followed Jesus) could change his name to Yeshua, and his wife could change her name, or name their kids after disciples. it proves too little far too late.
The real basis of this is just showing the name had context as far back as (whenvever).
