Much to the dismay of my fellow tech heads, I decided to install and run Vista today...

I just got Firefox up and running, and I gotta say, I'm impressed w/the interface so far...Everything is coming up quickly, smoothly, and only a slight few of annoyances I've found so far, but none too bad...

I'm off to install udates and updated drivers for my machine...Will keep you posted..!

Vista still has issues for some of my 3D OpenGl work and games. Some hardware still doesn't work properly on it yet either (and I suspect probably never will for some old devices I still have). Also, the cpu seems to be tied up doing other things and slowing down intensive tasks like video processing and rendering.

Otherwise tho, for general work its fine. Just like Linux is fine for general internet activity as well.

I'll put more effort into Vista if games actually perform better in it later this year.

I think I lucked out; my laptop was Vista ready when I bought it...I don't have any hardware issues so far, and to be quite honest, I really thinks this is a cool OS...I'm not totally in love with it, but I certainly like it..

As long as you're running the OS on a Vista ready system you shouldn't really have any hardware issues. Most of the hardware companies have updates to make their products Vista compatible. I just updated the firmware on the routers and access points at my parents place because dad dukes decided to go buy himself another new laptop....

IMO there isn't any real reason for one to go and upgrade their XP to Vista. I've run Vista before and downgraded back to XP. It wasn't that my machine couldn't handle it just I didn't really find any benefits in Vista.

Let me know how you like it A. I'm thinking about running it myself

This may be of interest to those of you wanting to "test" Vista for a bit:

I'm leaning towards what Diz said, only I don't see a reason to downgrade at this point...

That little account security thing is annoying, but can be turned off easily...So far, all of my apps that I want to run are working fine, and moving fast...I have 2 gigs of PC5300 and am an avid Firefox user; so seeing big hunks of RAM being used isn't scary to me...

The sidebar thing I like alot, and I also like that they've brought back the media preview pane, which was one of the things I loved about Windows 2K that was vacant in XP...

They've included Media Center in the version of Vista I installed, the update system has been tweaked and refined, shit, I like it...But that's just now, if and when my mood changes, I'll be sure to put it here, but at the moment I don't see all the hate...

Plus, Aero is purrrrrty.... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Would you recommend me upgrading?
