How do you guys with massive data collections store your discs..?
Right now, I have about 10 spindles of DVD and data CD's, and I'm really just wondering if there is a better method others are doing that may be better...I thought about CD/DVD books, but most of those are huge, and only hold about 300 discs...
I've honestly thought about investing into some blank HD-DVD's, and getting rid of some discs that way, but that may not be as cost effective, and would furthermore render them useless beyond my own PC for the moment...
Any tips are appreciated...

I do it the same way you do, so far
Stuff I use alot is/are in jewel cases and in a storage shelf but the others are on spindles- then I have a backup desktop raided with 6 200G HD's with every damn thing I've owned on it plus I use it for my movies, photo's, games, ebooks and baseball stats/games
I like the DVD (4GB) idea for storage but the same problems/questions
Would it render it useless for sharing, etc.??
The DVD recorder and DVD-R are actually at pretty decent prices now

I normally leave them lying on the desk (normally unlabelled), and when running out of room, put them onto empty spindles and shove them into the cupboard.

I'd definitely have to kill myself if I did that, lol...You wouldn't believe the lengths I go through to have data at my fingertips...But, then again, you might, lol...

Re: Disc filing system..
We're using the same way A.
I've put a number on the spindles and I have an excel file that says what's on each spindle... or... in which spindle is what I'm looking for.
Ass(SHAKIRAAAAAAA!!!!!) long ass(SHAKIRAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!) you keep your spindles small (like 50 dvds) you can keep easily good track of what you have in one :)
If you need more detail, get smaller (25pcs) spindles :)

Re: Disc filing system..
I've been trying to tackle this problem for years. Then I saw an snippit in a magazine about a tower that has slim plastic trays, along with a usb connection to software that sorts it all for you, pretty cool.
But now I'm thinking about buying a couple Imation Stakkas.
http://www.imation.com.au/products/disc ... /index.htm
The software catalogs all the files, and allows you to search through them
its about $89 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002S30RU/ref ... 461&sr=8-1
or google: http://www.google.com/products?um=1&cli ... coring=mrd

Hmm, I wonder if that can be used w/Bluetooth, cause that would rock out...I don't want stuff stacked up by my desk...If so, that definitely rocks the fuck out..

Can't it just sit next to your desk, or on a bookshelf within USB reach? USB maximum length is 5m (about 16' 5').

You could always just go with a Belkin CableFree USB Hub if you need it to be wireless.
