Spoke to Ayhja about this, so I'm gonna post a simple repair for IE that (no news here) Microsoft doesn't bother to divulge to its customers:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP
From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.
It works! Checks the Windows components for errors and repairs 'em!

Like Bandyta said (where is that guy at the mo'), just scrap IE and use Firefox, works way better.
