Omg...I have too much to add to this! I'll get in on this when I get back home from Thanksgiving. Well, I guess I could give you a litte taste of my nonsense knowledge...
George Washington was not the first president of the United States of America in fact John Adams was. John Adams was sworn into office hours before Washington and the Constitution simply states that if ever there is not a president, by death, resignation or whatever the reason, then the Vice President shall take the title. So, for all y'all who grew up under the impression that George Washington was the first president of the USA...you were misled...John Adams was.

Yes...but his duties as VP include filling in for/becoming president when there is no president, so since there was no president (not sworn in atleast) at the time Adams was, he had the role as our first president.
