So this is the deal. I have had my ipod for a while now. I think I have run out of warranty on it. The other day I tried connecting my ipod through a usb on my computer. It gave me the following message
USB Device Not Recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message
So I reseted my ipod and tried connecting again. No help. The problem was still there. I uninstalled all my usb drivers and reinstalled it. It either gave me the same message or no message at all and when i open the window to see what usb devices are connected it just said unknown device.
I have searched and searched and could not find a solution to it. I know that the power is going through to my nano because it can charge. Its charging fine it just does not recognise the device.
Any help would be great guys.

Re: Some Ipod Help
OK..
Troubleshooting TIP #1.
Stating w/software can be very tricky...Have you eliminated the possibility of it being hardware related..? Changed cables, tried to hook the ipod to another machine, etc...The first thing I would do is see if you can take the same cable and hook the ipod to another machine...If you can, then you can delve into working the issue out of your machine...If not, once you replace the cable, and there are still issues, then you know its more than likely your Nano that has hit the bricks...

Re: Some Ipod Help
I just tried it on the uni computers. Its the same problem. It came with the same usb device unrecognised and malfuntioned thing. It worked fine. The last time i plugged it into a computer was probably last friday and it was fine then. I did a presentation of it. After that it just hasnt worked.
What can I do next?

Re: Some Ipod Help
OK cool, so now we know the problem is 90/10 ipod...
Assuming its not very likely that the cable is malfunctioning, my second thing would be to see if there is some kind of device reset method on the ipod...Which may suck because you'll likely loose all your files, but as it stands that may have already happened, so...I know alot of small device have a method by which you can restore the device to its factory settings as a last ditch resort to fix a problem...Seeing as that I don't actually own an ipod (long live the psp) however, I'm not entirely sure...But what I do know is that logically, something has went fooey w/your nano...
But, before you reset the device, I know that those Mac devices like to talk to mac software...Maybe if you install the absolutely latest version of itunes on your PC, it will update the driver for the device and or offer some diagnostic advice...

Re: Some Ipod Help
Ipods do have reset ie to factory settings. My ipod still works. It still charges when i plug it into the computer and it still plays the music on there. I got the latest version of itunes but yeah still nothing. When i get home I will reset it to factory settings and yeah try to make it work. I just dont want to reset it and then not get it to work. That would just suck.

Re: Some Ipod Help
the problem was just the cable... it was a DSE cable instead of original ipod ... It had worked before but there must have been something wrong with it. Thanks for the help A

Re: Some Ipod Help
No problem Bro, glad I could help...I've never used an ipod before, but I figured it is more than likely hardware related, especially when shit just up and stops functioning...
