HELP RE PC QUERY!

#1

Post by adp10 »

Hey all,
was wondering if anyone could seriously help me out w/ a pc query I got regarding my Temporary Internet Files folder...

Was taking a look at the folder the other day and noticed a change in the index.dat DAT File:
the other day it was at 2, 976 KB and now it's at 3,376 KB.

*Seeing as there has been an increase in KB size, does anyone know if I can safely delete the index.dat DAT File in the Temporary Internet Files folder?
I don't wanna fuck anything up on my pc, so gimme a serious answer to this only if you're 110% sure!

Thanx!

*Below is a screenshot of what I'm referring to:

You should be able to delete anything in your temp folder, but to be safe that you don't delete anything in use, use the buttons in the control panel to do it...Make sure you check the "delete all offline content" tab...

That file indexes the file in your ITF.
When you delete all your files the index will still be there.
That file is recreated in case you don't have it so you can delete it w/o any further preocupation.
Perhups the sistem will tell you that is a system file anyway you go ahead.

Now my question is are you so desperate that you need those 3 or 4 MB, it will never be over 5 or 6 Mb probably?

You should invest some time in a program that will help you clean out your temp files, if you're not so sure what is what...I used to use a program called "Uninstall Manger" back in the day, that would do an awesome job of temp file and cache cleaning...

You would also be wise to invest in a program that lets you tweak your windows settings, and prevent your OS from creating such files...I use a tweaking program called FreshUI, it works well and it's free to register it...

Kiss It: Yes I'm 100% shure.

For you all I recommend you Norton System Works.
Obiously has Norton Anti-Virus included
Has the Norton Disk Doctor that replaces the scandisk and can correct any missinformation your drive has (faster and better).
Has a better Hd defragmentation utility named Speed Disk faster and more intelligent thatn any other.
Has an utility that clears your cache.
Protected recycle bin.
And a lot of more features.
I used it for years and any new version is getting better always.

Try it!!!

I have Norton Internet Security. It works well too, along with Firefox keeps out any attempt of intrusions or Trojan Horses or viruses etc. But after mucking around with the settings the Firewall got too fussy and blocked everything (no I didn't hit the Block Access switch). So I turned it off and used the Windows Firewall.

I still can't delete the "index.dat" file though.
