Obama says he will try to get 8-team playoff
5:46 p.m. ET Nov. 15, 2008
NEW YORK (AP) - It’s not exactly at the top of his agenda, but President-elect Barack Obama says there should be a college football playoff to determine a national champion. In fact, he knows exactly what he wants — an eight-team playoff.
In an interview with “60 Minutes,” Obama addresses a subject college football fans have debated for many years, and says he will use his influence to create such a system.
“If you’ve got a bunch of teams who play throughout the season, and many of them have one loss or two losses, there’s no clear decisive winner. We should be creating a playoff system,” he tells CBS’ Steve Kroft in an interview to be broadcast Sunday.

As usual 60 Minutes is a little late. He already told Chris Berman that on Monday Night Football. :)

And how exactly does he plan on doing this? The NCAA isn't going to switch just because the President said so

Dunno, but the way it is at the moment's a joke, endless Bowl Games that prove nothing.
Doesn't the public overwhelmingly want college playoffs?
Rather like 'campaign finance reform' and 'doing away with penalty shootouts in the World Cup' I reckon, endless talk, the masses are ignored and nothing ever changes.

The President...Arguably the most powerful and influential man in the world...We think he can get Iran to stop making nukes, but a playoff is out of the question..? Trust me, pulling some strings to make this happen...Probably the only one that can do it is the president...A BCS tournament would be the absolute biggest event in sports second to the World Cup...It would shame the Super Bowl...There's a way we can get what we want while the presidents who are BCS dick riding can do the same...

I wholly endorse Obama's thought to revise the current BCS system of sporting. It might actually get me in-tune with college football later in the future, because right now, and for the past few decades, the BCS has been harder to understand than the intracies of time travel implications.
A topical example of this would be seen as such, provided by SportingNews.com, a customized handy-dandy BCS Flow Chart to the Championships:

The BCS is confusing, filled with clauses, subclauses, and countless other frills and doodads built into it. Please consult our handy Sporting Blog chart of how the BCS will play out in 2008. Remember: this is an official Sporting Blog product, and therefore infallibly correct.
