Battlestar Galactica!

#1

Post by BFG9000 »

Starting in mid January, The SCIFI Channel is starting a new series based on the revamped version of Battlestar Galactica.

The show is more gritty, less hokey, and the ships are redefined. Edward James Olmos plays Commander Adama and the Cylons are human forms instead of "walking toasters".

I was a fan of the show in the early 80's. What do you think about the show and feel free to comment about it.

Yeah Fapper, Dirk played Starbuck. In the new version, Starbuck's a woman.

If it wunn't broke...
Galactica was a blatant rip-off of Star Wars as its birth immediately followed SW's success, sure it was kinda cheesy and a bit more "disco" than SW ever was. The series, however, eventually found its voice and was able to stand up on its own....until the last episodes which went TOTALLY off, the moment they reached earth, all went to shit (thus the flying bikes).
Unless there's a good creative team behind this project, it won't last. No hot chicks, "better" FX or grittyness(which is formulaic in itself), will save this project, if there's no new angles, creativity or intelligent scripts, it's doomed to fail, just like the rest of the long list of 70's remakes.

Well, confirmed...
I managed to catch one and a half episodes of the new BG, and in my humble opinion, it blows.
I would like, however if someone could explain a few "additions" to the storyline that I managed to catch and just annoyed me. For starters....why do they salute officers with the standard hand-to-forehead?...where did they learn this?
Why is there suddenly a "president"?...why are there flags on board which strangely resemble the US flag?. I realize that these are times of packaged and marketed patriotism...but...well, whatever.
Starbuck as a woman?...as far as I could tell, it has added not one ounce of interest for the storyline. I thought the change would be beneficial, and it's irrelevant, plus she's a horrible actress. Never got to see the cylons, but I managed to peep some robots that are IDENTICAL to those of the Star Wars prequels, VERY sad.
Edward James Olmos seems a bit too intense to play Adama, it felt like he was channeling his character from American Me, Santana. Bad ass mexican mafia running the Galactica?...not likely.
Another little detail that I couldn't get into was the now all-too-popular unstable, crackhead-held camera for close-ups, during dialogue. It felt like I was watching NYPD Blue - 2025. Granted, nearly two episodes might not give a fair assesment for the show's quality, but it did not seem intersting enough to stay longer.
As of yet, I give it an F. [-(
