Attack of the Clones
I just saw the movie 'The 6th Day' again recently, and I realized that we have either never had the discussion, or its been long enough to have another one about the principles, ethics, etc. of human cloning, and or cloning in general...I have a few eggs I want to lay, but if anyone wants to beat me to it, please do...

Re: Attack of the Clones
I shall let you begin. I don't ever want to be cloned...I'd rather not do that to another human being...another me? {shudder} :|

There are times that I'd love to be able to be in 2 places at one time, but realistically, it wouldn't be the same. The cloned me wouldn't have the same experience, knowledge, or personality. I am more than a sum of my parts; I am unique and enjoy knowing that.

Re: Attack of the Clones
I'm not sure how I can really express my ideas about this...The only frame of reference that I have is to think about the movie...Dude woke up, not really sure of what had happened, but he went about his day as normal...It seemed surreal, almost like Deja Vu, but when he got home and saw himself in the house, he freaked...
Now, I guess what I'm thinking about is 'picking up where you left off' I mean, to me, its perfectly plausible to create a clone...But, would it in essence, be...A clone..? Would my mother be able to tell the difference between clone Ty and original Ty..? What would be that...Thing...To separate a clone from a source..?

Yeah, but how..? What makes them different..? In other words, what is it about a human being that would make it impossible to create a 1:1 ..?

Re: Attack of the Clones
It all comes down to identity - what makes me me. I'm with Raum that the clone would not be identical. I am a dualist, so I believe we have a body and a soul and it is this soul that makes my identity. You cannot duplicate souls because they are immaterial and non-spatial. So you can create someone who may look exactly like me, but it ain't me
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

But if the clone is alive, breathing, walking, talking...Does it not have a soul, albeit an artificial one..?

no, cause souls come out of the penis, and go in the bagina.
