I thought to take the initiative on the topic and create the precursor to what will assuredly be an action-oriented, bracing, comedically-ridiculous at times, dramatic & exhilarating, fun-filled game of heroic He-men that captures our awe throughout the enitre year in anticipation of it: This is the 2009 NFL Year.

ugh, this'd more apropos, I suppose. That's more like it.

Prologue:
So, just a few days shy of the NFL Draft, what better time than this is there to dish the metaphorical dirt on this season's happenings? What are you hearing now? Did your team(s) create a splash in the pool of free agent signings, or merely a gentle stir? What offseason story really caught your attention, whether it pertains to the Ryan Moats injustice, or the Cowpokes releasing always controversial WR TO, then-his-subsequent-24-hour-week-long-signing with insert speculated NFL team here debacle, or perhaps the recent news that a true NFL luminary announces his retirement after nearly 60 years experience, more than 4 decades of which was at the professional level.

Freely converse about any and all the daily NFL rumblings you either heard, read, or thought about but didn't know where it belonged. The different stories and rumorscapes make up a good portion of the excitement each year, so deliver it constantly.

DUDE...We already touched on it in another thread, but...Are the Bears one of the most improved teams now that they have Cutler on board..? I'm hoping that they will add another receiver, but if it were me, I'd be running 2 tight end sets out the ass, with Hester running fly or posts routes every play...I would nickle and dime squads to fucking death..!

I'm also interested to see what happens in Buffalo...Say what you will about TO, but one thing you will never question is his work ethic and what product he puts on the field...

As usual, the Pats reloaded...I'm ready to see the greatest QB ever get back on the horse...

I'm really gassed about this season, and I don't eve like pro football...Shit, we gotta get a college thread up soon, time to subscribe to my sports feeds again..!

While the draft is good and all, building a team through the most efficient and readily-available manner possible, for it does reset every year, thereby offering near limitless potential for any franchise, I don't understand it quite yet. Granted, I only started getting into the NFL's true intricacies since the Rams/Patriots SuperBowl, I abashedly admit that last year's season was the first time I followed the NFL throughtout the entire regular season+postseason. Besides the issue of me never witnessing the spectacle of selecting veritable names out of a helmet, whether live, or even through the news later on, I have totally avoided this fragmentation of the NFL altogether and forever.

As it is, I don't plan on discussing it. I have no inkling of where to start, and while this will be my innaugural NFL draft coverage, I still really can't follow the potential candidates because watching college ball still hasn't sunk into my pscyhe yet. Hopefully I can learn the basics to the routine in time for the event, and watch for potential upsets of the day.




So what to discuss? How about the rousing story of an exceptional playmaker who perhaps had a bit of luck in terms of overall production, but unfortunately enough, it was on a 2-14 team that seems destined to squander his as-of-yet undetermined potential for his newly-acquired & ridiculousy-expensive replacement. As much as I'd love to gush about the heroic story I uncovered about Kansas City QB Tyler Thigpen during the regular season last year, most of the general public have probably already forgotten or never were aware of his existence, let alone his importance. But for us few who stood and marveled at the amount of pressure and duress this 3rd-string QB overcame, and did so in a fairly high degree of greatness, (not great enough to push the team to any more than two wins, but they sure went down swinging in many contests he signal-called) we will not soon forget you.

It's still VERY early for football talk...It will usually take a couple more weeks or so before guys start getting ready to report to camp...I might make a trip to Jackson to see if I can catch a glimpse of the Saints and the lovely Miss Kardashian while I'm at it, lol...I like the Saints to compete if they are healthy this season...They didn't have a great year but injuries were why, gonna be interesting to see what comes up after this...

I'm not sold on Cassel yet, but the NFL season is as long as it is hard...I'm sure Tyler will get a shot...He's definitely a starter in this league...

I guess we are on somewhat opposite sides of the ball, since I am really getting into gear for the NFL, but I watch college football very sparingly. Perhaps that's why I didn't want to be the person to introduce any draft stories.

I agree with the two tight end set being employed in Chicago, since I don't hear anything too ground-breaking for their prospects at WR.

I don't have anything negative to say about TO, save he should keep his yap shut sometimes and let his hands capture all the respect he needs from his naysayers. But, the real question I have about Buffalo is their run with mediocrity since Trent Edwards is at the helm.

Again, not really in-tune with the NFL Draft fully, but the Pats having eleven picks is amazing, and what is insane is the fact that seven of those picks come in the first 100 selections. They also made some of the most mind-blowing acquisitions of veteran taalent in Shawn Springs, Fred Taylor, Galloway, etc.

I cannot stand hearing the incessant and continually-renewing rumors about the Redskins being involved in nearly every trade and/or draft prospect. Dan Snyder already broke the bank on the first day of free agent signing, yet somehow the organization he and Cerrato are running still have the feasible bullets in the chamber to be involved with all the biggest names, e.g. Albert Haynesworth, Terrell Owens, Jay Cutler, Mike Shanahan, Mark Sanchez, etc.

Chiefs Trade Tony Gonzalez to Falcons

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade perennial Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez to the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick in the 2010 draft.

Gonzalez had asked the Chiefs for a trade in March if the right deal came along. The only tight end in NFL history selected to 10 Pro Bowls, Gonzalez owns NFL career records at his position with 916 receptions, 10,940 receiving yards, 76 receiving touchdowns and 26 100-yard receiving games.

"On behalf of my family and the Chiefs, I want to thank Tony for his time in Kansas City," Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "Over the last 12 seasons, Tony has been one of the finest players in Chiefs history, and he will always be remembered as a member of the Chiefs. His play on the field speaks for itself -- he holds almost every major NFL record for tight ends, and he is arguably the best to ever play his position. We wish him the best in Atlanta."

He plans on playing at least one more season and possibly two.

Wow, I was just readng an hour ago that Philadelphia was in contention to obtain him before the draft; too little, too late now.
This is a great move for Atlanta for the reasons that 1) now Roddy White's past 2 spectacular seasons can continue into the new decade, and 2) I had no idea at all that Atlanta even had a Tight End last year, and now they have arguably the most viable and talented one in the league.

Well I wouldn't say he's the most talented anymore but he's a nice pickup for Atlanta. May help Matty Heisman from having a sophomore slump. Tough to say who the best TE is now but I think I'd pick the gentleman out of San Diego.
