Aside from a couple questions that arose near the end of the movie for me (which I won't even mention until a few other people have seen it) I thought this was one of the best movies I've seen.
It's got enough science fiction to remain intriguing to the gifted minds that populate this site while also having enough emotional appeal and story to carry it and make it enjoyable and interesting in its own right, if you're not in the mood to think, or aren't particularly engrossed by the futuristic technology. All of this is made better because of the beautiful and simply awesome scenes and effects throughout the movie. Really a joy to watch. I could give you the entire plot of the movie, all spoilers included, and you'd probably still enjoy the hell out of it.
And it's definitely worth a second (and maybe third + ) watch.

Glad you said something, I'll probably check it out this weekend so I can have something to say about it in this thread...Been wanting to check it out since I saw the trailer so long ago...

Inception and Salt are both on my "movies to see" list.

I watched this last week. Never saw this thread until now. Great film though. Expectations are always high from a Leonardo DiCaprio film and he does not disappoint here at all.

OK, I saw it....And I'm ready to speak spoilers...
I thought it was a good film, aimed at an intelligent audience...But having said that, for the over average, near genius viewer (that's me :D), it ended up not leaving enough to the imagination...
Spoiler:
The ideas presented in the film I found acceptable and compelling...I understood the talk of the subconscious very well...But where I thought the most confusion came from, is how they brought about levels of the subconscious...They switched too fluently from who was dreaming, and what was possible in the dream...And when the added the fact that there were ways to prevent inception, it got iffy...
If we want to explore Subject A's subconscious, we need at least 3 people, right..? The subject, an architect, and a foreign entity to navigate the subconscious...Now, in many instances, the subject was already under or put under first...Then the architect is to get in, design levels of the subconscious, and provide a way for the entity to get inside...Fair enough, but when you go into the other levels, it gets tricky...Entities bring with them their own conscious and subconscious clutter, which seems to contradict the initial idea of subconscious behavior...On top of that, within subconscious levels, you can dive deeper by going under yet again...A dream, within a dream, within a dream...
Sounds simple enough, but when you take the time to explain so much of what's going on, you instantly create your own connections...You ask your own questions, and immediately, I started to find faults or questions that left me feeling incomplete, rather than, "Oh wow, I wonder if he died," type question that gives you an exciting sort of feeling...I was stuck more or less with the, "WTF" feeling, especially at the end...And once that sets in, there is no "Oh I get it!" moment that will make me feel good about the film...
Take for instance the idea of the Totem...It was presented very, very clearly, and then demonstrated...And then it got inconsistent...For instance, the question, "Does the totem only work when you're dreaming in YOUR dream, or dreaming period..?" The ending, which I think was meant to invoke the reaction of "Is he dreaming?" Should not have, and you can tell that's the intent by the way the movie ended...If he was dreaming, then the totem would have fell over immediately...No architect knows of the totem enough to replicate it, and nobody touched Leo's totem...
Good movie, great idea, but may have been too complex to execute for guys like me...

Sounds very much like a Chris Nolan film going off what Ube said: High concept, near great execution.. but with plotholes which were overlooked by the director in favour of telling the greater story. Much like The Dark Knight really.

Great movie!
Agree there were a few holes and uncertainties. Also I thought the ending was super cheesy, no need.
But I was impressed with Leo's performance & i think if you try not to pick it apart too much and gloss over the cracks it's more enjoyable.

It's hard not to pick apart Nolan's work due to the themes & subject matter he tackles. So far, only The Prestige & Memento have no flaws. Both his Batman films have holes and definitely the lackluster Insomnia. I have yet to peep Inception, but it's sounding a bit shaky now..

Never seen Memento, but The Prestige is def. one of the best movies that I've ever seen...But yeah, this is a movie for intelligent viewers, makes it very hard to just enjoy it as mindless fun...I know for me, once I decided there was something that I needed to be thinking about or remembering, I couldn't stop...

I had no complaints with the movie. To me I saw it as Nolan making his Matrix movie.
