On August 4, 2011, Virginia Tech officials decided to lock down the campus after three students who were attending a summer camp reported that they saw a man who might be carrying a gun. University officials carried out a prompt response to avoid another shooting incident inside the campus. At 9:37 a.m., the university issued an alert through its website. School officials advised employees and students to stay inside. Larry Hincker, spokesman for the university, revealed that the campus alert is still in effect. He also advised people to stay indoors.
