I think it was said because of all the sin that Jesus bore that day, God couldn't stand to look at him. He had to turn his back from the unbearable sight until He died to cleanse the sin.

But, on first guess, I'd have to say that somehow it's a bit of mistranslation, w/the whole forsaken bit, etc...But, if that's to be taken at face value, then I'd say that he was probably feeling what all men feel right before they die, as I don't think it was much longer than that...
Kinda confuses me though, as I feel that Jesus and God were one in the same, but that wouldn't be the first time he's spoken that way...

I did notice though, that there is some skippage from him uttering that phrase, and right to the death...
IE, somewhere after that, I thought I was gonna see where Longinus gave him a hero's death, but I didn't, and the water gushing forth that cured his cataracts like no weed can, but alas, it wasn't there...
