I need to write an essay on this tmra..

Does anyone know of any Bible verses that suggest something different than the common "die and instantly go to heaven or hell" viewpoint held by most Christians?

there are tons.

Just a few come to mind in the Old Testament:

Job, chapter 14.
Psalms 88 (one of the best)
Isiah 26

In the new testement:

1 Thesselonians verse 4:16 is enough to stand by itself:

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel's voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

this clearly indicates the dead are not risen until The Lord Himself will descend...

romans 6:23

finallly, the coup de grace -

Revelations shapter 20 (in full) indicates the judgement of the dead doesn't even happen until That Old Dragon is cast into the pit.

Raum, i dont mean to always respond in one-liners, its just that usually all i feel worthy and intelligent enough to write after you post..

but thx for helpin me, i got ridiculed by an ethics teacher for writing "I dont know" to that question what happens when you die...He thought I didnt try, I was like 'man i thought you would know me well enough that when I put that, its a legitimate I DONT KNOW" LoL..
