So maybe He did die from a blood clot, but He still was crucified and it doesn't take away from the signifigance of that

that shows that the people researching this need help. the method of death on the cross is strangulation.

look, the rope around the neck is the method of death.

by driving the nails in the arms and feet of the crucified person, you are enabling them to "pull themselves up on the nails" as long as they can bare the pain, then they let go and they are strangled, so they automatically pull themselves back up,.. causing more exhausting pain. They showed "mercy" on those who they wished bvy breaking their arms and legs so they couldn't pull themselves up.

Basically, the crucified are "Hanged"...when they pass out from the exhausting pain - they die of strangulation from the weight of their own body.

Definitely. Crucifixion caused death by asphyxiation, often caused by exhaustion of the diaphragm. There was sometimes a rope around the neck, but oftentimes not. Crucifixion was a very slow painful death, sometimes lasting for days. In the crucifixion account, the two thieves on either side of Jesus had their legs broken to quicken their deaths due to the Sabbath coming up. Thus, they could no longer lift their bodies up in order to breathe.

It was a sick ass way to die.

Wait Raum. They put a rope around the neck? I thought they broke the legs so that they couldn't pull up. They would die from asphyxiation. I didn't know they put a rope around the neck.

Sometimes they did, sometimes not. There is no mention of a rope around Jesus' neck in the crucifixion accounts, so I doubt they used one with him.

Yea...they didn't even break his legs I don't think. They put the spear in his side but he was already dead

it is biblical that they didn't break his limbs, and it was consemmurate with the time that they would have had a rope around his neck... but they might not have.

the asphyxiation is the method of death either way. i am inclined to think he would have hada rope around his neck, as a personal affront, enforced by those who saw him as a traitor, as that rope burn is their own "calling card" in the after life.

Right. They were going to break his legs to speed up the process, but he had beat them to it, fulfilling the prophesy that not a bone in his body would be broken.

And to clarify a misconception held by many, the nails driven into his "hands" were actually in between the two bones of the forearm. The Hebrew concept of "hand" extended up past the wrist.
