Although a lot of the time it is maddening, it truly is hilarious how people (or wastes of space) can get so, well, fucked out their tree just because of what other people write at online message forums.

I am dead serious about this, think about it.

It's true. I've seen threads where a person will post a statement that seems ignorant or misguided and the whole world falls in on him. I've done it myself, most of us probably have. We need to realize that there is a WIDE range of people in here... all ages, all races, different nationalities, all with different points of view. We all have had different experiences growing up and educationally/professionally that have brought us to where we are and who we are.

Granted, sometimes someone says something that's so totally off-base and out of the park that they need to be "educated", but most of the time, the arguements that we have in here (if you can call them that) are based on misconceptions, bad choice of words, and ignorance of where the other person is coming from.

Open your minds to other points of view, you don't have to accept them, but at least be willing to try and see things from where the other person is speaking. And above all... lighten up!!!

Being in this forum, like any other forum...like any conversation, is good excersice I think. I just don't think you get anything out of a group of "yes folk". I think whoever enters a forum must do so expecting some sort of friction, if for nothing else, the amount of people and their opinions. You SHOULD take into consideration a couple of very simple facts:
We are more than a few...and the numbers grow quite fast
We come from different backgrounds, countries, social strata
Most think their opinion counts...
Some disagree
Conversations and opinions are affected by the way in which they are expressed:
face to face...not the same as a phone convo...not the same as a letter, an e-mail, chat room, one-on-one messenger, or a forum.
And let's face it, not being face to face lends itself to a bit less politeness and restraint as you would show another person, instead of pixels.

People need to give space (but then that's why the forum is effective, your opinion IS there and IS read, whether "they" like it or not), as opposed to a group of testosterone-laden kids shouting obscenities.
The other side of this (meaning you) also needs to come in expecting conflicting views, to think everyone will just post a little emoticon with a nodding head is just silly. If you think you can bring something of worth to the discussion, DEFINITELY do so, if that means putting some virtual foamy soap in someone's mouth, bring it. You are expected to hopefully improve the quality of any given discussion here, usually by example, you get what you put in.
