New Eric Clapton Album

What do people think of the new EC album? I'm a fan of him but just can't get excited by some of the MOR albums he churns out occasionally.

Depends on the kind of music you're into really.

"Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs" during his time with Derek and the Dominoes is well worth a listen. Also features the slide guitar of Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers band. Some great guitar, some well crafted songs but it does sound a little dated now.

One of my favorites is "Riding With the King" a Blues compilation he did with B.B. King.

Yeah - that's a great album. I love his blues stuff most of all but many people don't like blues. "From the Cradle" is superb and of course his guitar playing with John Mayall's bluesbreakers was phenomenal and at the time revolutionary.

I can't understand why people wouldn't like the blues. They were the birthplace of rock and just about every popular style of music since.

Ouch - it was more like a couple of beers, a bottle of wine and half a bottle of Grappa. But I do indeed have the blues big time now /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Have you checked out any EC yet then?

EC is one of my top 20 guitar players
Ayhja i think you should aproach him by listening to "Pilgrim"
I havent reached the new EC album the last of him i have is "Me and Mr. Johnson" he's now editing relaxed albums, something natural once he reached a non-effort classy playing.

Off topic but funny stuff: some years ago on his 2nd visit to Uruguay i was on the bus to go to see EC as we were reaching destination the bus driver got surprised of the amount of people in the area around the concert and he (who seem to have never listened to a single note of EC, but he got some idea about that he play the blues) told us "Very popular the negro, huh!" (racist!)
