Mars has had a close encounter with Earth, approaching to within 69.4 million km (43.1 million miles) of our planet in the early hours of Sunday.
Whew..! Only 43 million miles away..!
What a relief...I thought it was going to a long ride...

i heard about this a long time ago. every bunch of years it comes really close to earth... well a lot closer than it usually is, and you can see it for months from earth at night or something. i cant be more specific since i read about this months ago but i think thats what they were saying.
