Should Smoking in Public Be Banned..?

#1

Post by AYHJA »

In many of the places you go, there are designated smoking and no smoking spots...That always made me laugh, cause I didn't see a protective barrier/fan that would prevent the person smoking 4 feet away from me from smelling the 2nd hand...I think that it should, except maybe in certain places, or designated smoke havens...But that's because I dont' smoke no more...LoL...

Your thoughts..?

Here in Florida, all restaurants and most bars are "no smoking" which doesn't bother me even though I smoke. What gets me is the possibility of a law like the one that's proposed in Seattle that would ban smoking from within 25 feet of any store entrance. I try to be very considerate of those around me when I smoke and refrain when I know it might be irritating to others, but pretty soon, the only places left to smoke will be in your own vehicle and at home. There is such a thing as going too far.

I agree withh DD on this one. I too smoke and try to be very considerate of those around me. When I do smoke it is generally in the car or outside away from others as to not offend them. For someone to say "you can no longer smoke in public" is really an insult to what this country is all about, the freedom of choice. What would be next "no public displays of affection"? Just my thought.

my view.

If people would stop worrying about death and vices and concentrate on life and freedom, we will have a far better go of this planet.

Tobacco is sacred,.. and should be treated as such. That shit most people buy in packs of 20 is poison coated in poison.

who has the money to smoke nowadays, and can't find something better to do with it?

Please make checks payable to,

what about my choice to breathe clean air or my choice to come home from a nightclub without smelling like a dirty ashtray used to clean a monkey cage?

Listen E, I said in public, meaning outside away from others who are offended by it. If I know you are a person who does not like to breathe in 2nd hand smoke or smell like an ashtray, I would gladly not offend you by doing it near you, I would excuse myself and go somewhere else. As for the nightclub thing, the only thing I can tell you is it is your choice whether you patronize one that allows smoking. If you have a problem with where you go, blame it on the owner for allowing people to smoke in their premises. Everyone in this country has a right to choice, personally I would love to stop smoking and save all the money I do throw down the toilet to basically shorten my lifespan. I do respect your view and wish I was on the other side of my own opinion.

I smoked for 10 years...Loved it...Man, it was nothing like kicking back and firing up a clove...

But when I bout died on my front porch from an asthma attack...Man, I haven't even thought about buying another pack...I have a cousin that had lung cancer at a young age (unrelated to smoking) and his ass still smokes...Went through chemotherapy and everything...I can't figure that shit out for the life of me...

I hated the way I smelled though...Smelling of smoke wasn't cool...I kept hand sanitizer and body spray on me all the time, thinking I was linus...The decision to smoke was made for me by my body, and I listened...I cannot even have a hard laugh these days without suckin' on the ole inhaler a couple times...

I never liked siggs much though, even when I smoked cloves, I thought they stunk...I don't think smoking should be allowed in any place where there might be kids...If I am out in a club, second hand smoke is the last thing my ass is worried about...I could care less in places like that...

Smoking is obviously not good for you (three of my grandparents have died from lung cancer), and it has some less than desirable consequences (yellow teeth, asthma, premature aging, etc.) These facts are blatantly stated on the cig labels and billboards, as well as being common knowledge in today's society. In my opinion, if we're not denying the public information, and smokers know the potential results, there's no reason to further concern ourselves with their actions. If it's not the health of the smoker but of the surrounding people that concerns our government, then they should be aware that it is heart disease, not cancer, that is the leading cause of death worldwide. In fact, cancer accounts for only half as many deaths as heart disease, so really state legislatures would have to ban eating in restaurants as well as smoking, to be sure they can prevent obesity which leads to hypertension which then leads to heart disease. Not that cancer is the only effect of second hand smoke, or to deny the fact that second hand smoke can also lead to heart disease (though obesity is a much faster and more popular way to get there), but just to point out that if you ban one thing for threatening public wellness, there are a million other things to ban which are more pertinent to being an actual health risk.
