This is a great album. I love the feel of it. It is amazing, even when they are talking about the evils of war or poverty and corruption, they simultaneously acknowledge it as part of the ineffable human condition. the depth is really welcome, and the music is completely feel good, even about the bad,.. for that too shall come to pass.

The musical influences vary from industrial to classic to pink floyd to hip hop (which i wish there was more of, to be honest). ever knew about, and if you need an album to put on to just disapear into an underlying metophor of human tendency to disharmony, so that one day we may know harmony, this is, as AYHJA, would say *that* deal.

In particular, Sufi wisdom (including references to Rumi) and ideas promoted by Gurdjieff and Ospensky abound in this one,.. including the name of the album, which was inspired by "Beelzebub's tales to his grandsons" (which is a phenomenal phlosophically-fictiona account detailing the beauty of the weakness/strength of the human nature, and punctuates how it will either be or demise, or our salvation .)

You are oh so, right on the fucking money with this one Raum! I love this CD and listen to it religiously! I swear to you on my way in this morning I was thinking of starting this very topic....somehow I got sidetracked in the sports forum

This album has something for everyone.

Raum, Gorrailaz are the brainchild of the Blur front man Damon Albarn, they have been kicking around the Britisih scene since the early 90's. They made the seminal (IMHO) Brit Pop album "Parklife" which you really should check out. They got into some pretty fierce rivalry with Oasis in the mid 90's, but most people here would agree that Blur's sound constantly eveolves whilst Oasis since the first album is well.........turd.

I actually found out that the blur front man spearheads this Friday from a guy at work who used to live in London. He said they would play behind a projection screen, and show the cartoon band playing the music. He said it was great fun to see them, and that the whole cartoon thing is a statement on the illusory stereotypes abound in pop, particularly Brit pop, as "boy bands" and "girl bands" abound the industry.

I will definitely check out blur after this, but I swear maybe I used to listen to them, and that's why gorillaz sounds so familiar.

Any other music you recommend?

Thats pretty much the nub, Raum, Gorrilaz started off a good few years ago with an LP, but this latest one has all the critics raving. I would defo recommend you check out Blur....the Greatest Hits cd from 2000 is an excellent introduction.

Try out the Kaiser Chiefs, a quirky indie band from Leeds. Their LP "employment" is a good listen. Also the Scottish band Franz Ferdinand, a funky guitar based sound. Both are recommended.
