Too much good

A school of music that studies the rhythm of nature, a school of fashion that studies the elegance of the Universe, a school of design that studies the architecture of the ancients, a school of philosophy that studies the time-tested Truth.

Too much good

#1

Post by trashtalkr »

I was listening to the radio this past week and came across a commerical that asked if too much good could be a bad thing. I've been thinking about this for awhile and I think that it could. If you receive too much of something that's good then you could become complacent, greedy, unthankful, etc.

Do you guys view it the same way?
"If there were no eternal consciousness in a man, if at the bottom of everything there were only a wild ferment, a power that twisting in dark passions produced everything great or inconsequential; if an unfathomable insatiable emptiness lay hid beneath everything, what would life be but despair?"

Soren Kierkegaard

Absolutely....

I notice things like that all the time now, especially since I have a family...Since I work from home, it is easy to be taken advantage of...My kid constantly destroys his room, he knows I hate junk and will more than likely pick it up for him in a cleaning fit...Wifey does the same thing with the dishes...LOL...

And too, I bet it would work both ways, shit, I can't get head and sexy whenever I want it...I have to wait...Months...

It's just a matter of spoiling people, and knowing when enough is enough...If they are always getting what they want, they willl never learn how to rub one off, errrr...I mean cope....

Agreed, too much good is not a good thing at all. You must keep thing balanced in order to have anything work properly. Like for the wheels of a mechanism... Oil is generall considered to help it work properly, however if you put in too much oil the gears start to slip and cause un-intented repurcursions.

It actually does dip down into the duality of life thing...

Yup,

Most (could make an argument for just about all) bad things are just improper perspectives or amounts of good things

Yeah, I agree...You have to try to get back to the middle...Balance...The essence of purity...Chaos occurs when there is too much of one side, good or evil...I have severe back pain...I try to avoid chaos as much as possible...Even when it is caused by good...I feel like much of life's trials are just about that...Attempting to keep you in balance...You appreciate the good moments more when you have the bad ones...

Shiiiddd, on those days, rubbin one off don't seem so bad at all...At least I got one to rub off... :king:

just to play devil's advocate....

couldn't one just re-evaluate the scale and adjust accordingly if one was wallowing in "good" all the time? Might be time to start shooting for great or spectacular.

It is ridiculous to believe that too much of a good thing is bad.

It has the possibility to distract certain people, but that's their own doing. If someone want's to spoil me, I'm going to allow them. But in return, I will share my compassion with other people. It's the buddhist way!
