Brawl breaks out in FIU-Miami game

QUOTEA sideline-clearing brawl interrupted the third quarter of the Florida International-Miami game Saturday night, prompting the ejection of at least 10 players in the first meeting between the South Florida rivals.

The fight started shortly after Jon Peattie's extra point with 9:00 left in the third quarter gave Miami a 14-0 lead. Both sidelines quickly emptied, with several fights breaking out during the melee before order was restored.

The brawl lasted about five minutes, and it took officials several more minutes to sort out the penalties. Players from both sides appeared to be swinging helmets, and one injured FIU player came onto the field swinging a crutch at Miami players.

More than two dozen uniformed police officers came onto the field, trying to end the fights.

Both teams had five players ejected, though it was not immediately clear which players were tossed.

Several minutes after order was restored on the field, one fight broke out among fans in the northwest corner of the end zone, with more than 12 police officers running into the stands to break up that melee. More officers, including some wearing helmets, continued to surround the perimeter of the field.

I saw a clip of this about an hour ago. I've been waiting for an article. This shit was insane. I've seen some fucking brawls before, but this thing was off the charts.

At least, at least, 50 guys on the field. Guys were going nuts. You had guys kicking other guys while they were on the ground, another guy was running around smacking guys with his helmet.

It was fucking insane...

Well, Florida got the shit beat out of them, so K, that's why Arkansas got that big bump...I guess its more showing that football is alot like boxing, its all about matchups...

OSU is #1, but Michigan is gonna beat that ass...USC is still undefeated, but far from invincible like they were before...But if they remain undefeated, they will move to #1 if OSU falls...The SEC is too damn tough for any team to emerge from there as the undisputed IMO...

There were some big upsets today. I was really surprised to see Florida go down like that. USC almost lost it also. OSU is still a dominate team and I know most of you disagree with me, but I also think West Virginia is still a dominant team. Who is going to be #2 now? Michigan?

Wow, down go the Trojans...Big win for Oregon, although, with the close game Washington gave them, can't say I'm all that shocked...Still, for USC to have lost what they did and still compete at such a high level is a great testament to their program...

You must don't follow football..?

Before Pete Carroll came through, USC was a mediocre type team, hardly the national powerhouse that they are now dude, and even you have done more than taken your shots at USC and the Pac-10, so....What are you talking about..?

I was at that game and it was so awesome. Both teams played well and USC prolly could have gotten that 2-pt conversion at the end, but oh well. that's the beauty of college football

Wow, West Virgina moves into the #3 spot...National title implications, because either Ohio State or Michigan will not be undefeated after their matchup next month...Gonna be the biggest game of the fucking year man, I can't wait...

I've said it before, and will say it again...OSU goes down...Too much Manningham...

Great game tonight, or well, its supposed to be...An upset would be just what the doctor ordered, but I think WVU wins this one handily...The Option is still the most feared offense in all football, and WVU runs that shit like the 95 Huskers...

I like them to go all the way...

I've loved West Virginia since the beginning of the season. I'm sure they will win this and prove to everyone that they are a national contender
