I think my naivete on how drafts/new coaches/new systems/rookie or unproven quarterbacks/gutted defensive backfield/ailing running game... all within a very competitive division, I can't see why I have optimism for Tampa Bay at all. Did they at least do well in the draft, according to the article? (don't have the insider)

I think a six-win or more season for the Bucs this year could be considered a good season, given the circumstances.

The Bucs could've stayed where they were and still gotten Josh Freeman, so I don't understand the decision to trade up for him. He has a lot of upside, but he's a risk/reward type of player because he isn't as polished as some of the other top quarterbacks in this draft. The Bucs made some very solid picks throughout the draft, including defensive end Kyle Moore in the fourth round and wide receiver Sammie Stroughter in the final round.

Quinn getting first-team reps

BEREA, Ohio -- Eric Mangini warns not to read too much into it, but the Cleveland Browns coach says Brady Quinn has a slight edge in the team's starting quarterback competition against former Pro Bowler Derek Anderson.

Quinn and Anderson participated in this week's voluntary minicamp, which started Tuesday and ends Thursday.

Mangini said he is being balanced with the reps of his quarterbacks, but Quinn's performance so far this offseason has helped him earn an early advantage over Anderson.

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been killed,
a source has confirmed to ESPN.com.

McNair, police said, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville, News Channel 5 in Nashville reported.

Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was found shot to death Saturday, multiple media outlets reported.

A woman was also found shot to death with McNair in a Nashville condominium in an apparent double homicide.

A public information officer with the Nashville police, Don Aaron, confirmed the death.

McNair played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans franchise and then spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

He was a three-time Pro Bowler and was the Co-AP NFL MVP in 2003.

Very tragic loss for football. McNair was a class-act and a great quarterback. He will be missed greatly.

That's what I heard speculated late last night on FoxSportsNews Radio, too... it was just an unhappy coincidence the one time in months I tuned into the broadcast, and I hear that McNair had been shot to death.

God, death comes unexpected and sudden for some, and that's what puzzles us so much. The 20-year-old girlfriend must've been not right mentally, or he and she got into an argument that got pushed too far and resolved unfairly when a firearm came into the equation.

Unbelievable.

I posted this musing and listing elsewhere, namely in the fantasy football discussion area, but it probably makes more sense here.

It delves into the most recent and best "choke-artist" teams that were left witness to this last season. Go ahead and comment about it.
