Spoiler:
Ya know what it wasn't half fuckin bad! I mean it wasn't a masterpiece or anything but Evans played Cap perfectly. I was afraid when he got cast he was gonna be like Reynolds and be making all kinds of little quips and jokes cause you know Reynolds just can't help himself and I didn't think Evans could either. But he was so great as Cap that you actually come away digging him and believing the guy is a badass. There were some funny parts in the movie but not directly tied to Evans. And yeah Bucky does end up biting it BUT in a similar fashion to how he was wiped out on the plane originally so him coming back is going to happen in a sequel without a doubt.
The Red Skull looked great. I mean exactly how you'd want him to look and it kind of made sense for him to have the deformed head instead of wearing a mask but it was like he was just a guy off on his own little separate war away from the Natzis and Hitler. The Skull seemed more like a middle management guy that may have met Hitler a few times. The Red Skull is supposed to be Hitler's Darth Vader. Everyone in the Reich is supposed to be terrified of the guy and yet he seems to be taking orders sorta from other Natzis. And Weaving was good but his German accent was pretty weak. Kinda slips in and out of it at times. And he was pretty evil in this but nowhere near as bad as he needed to be. Zola was his henchman and chief scientist and his first introduction was a great shout out to the comic Zola or a preview of things to come but him and the Skull got along great. Which was the problem! The Red Skull is supposed to be just the biggest asshole fuckheaded twisted bastard in comics. He was a little too polite and levelheaded to be the Red Skull. He should have been yelling at Zola the whole movie and just being a intimidating racist prick but he was more like a Bond villain.
The overall story was pretty good. Alot better than Green Lantern and a shitload better than Thor. It actually flowed and didn't feel rushed and it had a point. The USO thing was silly but it wasn't long and it had an eventual point even if there was absolutely no fuckin chance the US army woulda had him ever do that in real life. The Cosmic Cube was indeed tied into being Odin's and it served virtually no point in the movie. It was never made clear what exactly the thing was supposed to do other than being a power source for a vaporizing gun which was dumb. You do get the Howling Commandos even though they are never called that but no Invaders like I kept hearing were supposed to be in this. I think either Fiege or Joe Johnston thinks the Invaders WERE the Howling Commandos. Nice going Marvel!
My other problem with this was hardly anybody referred to him as Captain America except in the USO or as a mocking title. The same with the Skull who was never called the Red Skull. He was Johann Schmidt the whole movie. Marvel makes a movie about superheroes but seems like they're afraid they'll look silly if they are looked at like they are superheroes. Kind of like the nerdy kid tryin to be too cool for school. Accept who you are Marvel.
Anyway Jig and any of you guys I would recommend checking it out. It has it's flaws but it definitely works better than GL or Thor, not as good as First Class or Iron Man or near the new Bat movies but I would definitely give it a Seven out of ten.
